What do you remember? How many presents do you remember from your childhood? I remember three: My Purple Tricycle – age 3 I still love the feeling of wind on my face…. My Stackable Stereo that played cassette (yes cassettes) tapes – age 13 I still blast music loud and dance till I collapse…. My James Dean Life size Cardboard Cut Out – Age 15 I am still mesmerized by the movie "Rebel Without a Cause"…. What is the most memorable and precious gift you have ever received? Is it something you hold or something intangible? I have trouble choosing with this question. For me, the day I married my husband… the day I gave birth....the day my father said he was proud of me… those gifts are my most valued. Now, what is the most valuable gift you have GIVEN? Habits We realize that during this time of year it is easy to get carried away with the tangible gift buying. But this year we would like to challenge you to re-think this habit. We challenge you to purchase only FOUR gifts per child this year. After all, it’s hard enough to remember just ONE gift you received as a child, right? We began this with our daughter and the ability to recall her precious gifts as well as the ‘why’ behind that gift surfaced. Christmas is NOT about receiving gifts. It is about giving to others, helping others, remembering the spirit of Jesus, and making memories. If you disagree, then stop reading this article. No hurt feelings; this just isn’t the article for you. The Four Gifts So, how do you pick just four gifts to give? Try using this to help. It will require communication with the person you are giving things to… hint hint…. COMMUNICATE with your loved ones!!!! Get to know them…. Their likes, dislikes, favorite author, favorite ANYTHING! This challenge isn’t just about saving money or time. It goes deeper than that folks. Ask your wife… your son… your sister… your grandfather; What is: 1. Something you want
2. Something you need
3. Something you would wear
4. Something you would read And… here is the simple part… GO GET THOSE ITEMS!!!! No guessing or buying another set of gloves for someone who lives in Texas! Now, if you just cannot stop there, get creative and give your loved one 5. Something to share This encourages all to be with others and pay it forward if you will. Do you see why it is a challenge? (I lose most people when I tell them to communicate with others) Life goes on, times doesn’t stop. It is your choice whether or not to make a memory that will last. Try it and let us know how it goes! MERRY CHRISTMAS from the Harding’s! References:
